Durango High School students were welcomed Tuesday with important reminders about prom, testing, summer opportunities, and student involvement.
Students planning to attend prom are reminded that Out-of-School Guest and Underclassmen Forms are available in the commons. All sections must be completed and turned into the front office no later than April 3. Late forms will not be accepted, and submission does not guarantee a ticket.
Attention juniors: CMAS Science testing will take place on Tuesday, April 7 from 8:25–10:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity to prepare for the SAT the following week. Students should bring a fully charged Chromebook and report to their assigned testing room by 8:25 a.m. Be sure to check rosters posted in the ELA hallway and commons for your room assignment.
Students looking for summer jobs have multiple opportunities available. The Southwest Conservation Corps is hiring 10th–12th graders for outdoor conservation work. Interested students can attend a meeting in Mr. Brink’s room on April 2 during lunch to learn more and apply. Another option is the CAUSE Internship, offering $22 per hour, experience working with local nonprofits in digital marketing, and the chance to earn .5 elective credit. Applications are due April 5, with more information available through posters around the school or in the Counseling Office.
In club news, the Speech and Debate Club will meet today during lunch in Mr. Brooks’ room W1225, where students can meet new leadership and help shape next year’s plans. Additionally, rising juniors and seniors eligible for National Honor Society should check their email for application details, with applications due Tuesday, April 7. See Mr. Travis with any questions.
Today’s Demon of the Day is Lexi Drover, recognized for her supportive and caring actions. Nominated by Sierra Cockerell, Lexi went out of her way to help another student with an assignment from a different class, demonstrating empathy and kindness. Her actions truly reflect the Demon Way.
Students are encouraged to stay organized, meet important deadlines, and continue supporting one another.
