Durango High School kicked off Thursday with celebrations, reminders, and plenty of opportunities for students to get involved.
Shoutouts go out to some outstanding Demon achievements. The DHS Knowledge Bowl Team placed 4th among all 5A teams at State, missing 3rd place by just three points, and finished 8th overall out of 60 teams—an impressive accomplishment. The DHS Boys Lacrosse team also earned a big win, defeating Montrose 5–4 in overtime on Tuesday night.
Looking ahead, prom royalty nominations are due Friday, and only seniors are eligible to be nominated. Students should also remember that out-of-school guest forms for prom are due tomorrow—no exceptions.
Student Council is bringing some fun to campus with a school-wide egg hunt happening today and tomorrow. Eggs are hidden inside the building, and students should only search during passing periods—not during class. Keep an eye out for the two golden eggs, which come with extra prizes. Winners can bring them to Room 2011 to claim their reward.
Attention juniors: CMAS Science testing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 at 8:25 a.m. sharp. Be sure to bring a fully charged Chromebook and check posted rosters in the ELA hallway or commons for your assigned room.
Students interested in summer opportunities can learn more about the Southwest Conservation Corps, which is hiring for conservation-based summer jobs. An informational meeting will be held today during lunch in Mr. Brink’s room 2040. Additionally, students curious about college options can meet with a Metropolitan State University of Denver Admissions Representative today from 1:00–1:45 p.m. in the Counseling Office.
In club news, the Purgatory Pen Project meets today during lunch in Room 2014, offering a space for students to collaborate and grow as writers. Students interested in outdoor activities can also check out the Dirt Demons Mountain Bike Club meeting today during lunch in Mr. Fogg’s room (W2113).
Finally, rising juniors and seniors eligible for National Honor Society should check their email for application details, with applications due Tuesday, April 7. See Mr. Travis with any questions.
Students are encouraged to stay involved, meet deadlines, and continue showing their Demon pride.
