This week, Jaelyn Alston is our Athlete of the Week. Jaelyn is a junior and varsity basketball player. It means a lot to Jaelyn to be nominated. Her favorite moment this season has been traveling and playing with her team. She prepares for games by listening to music and keeping a calm mindset. Before games, she’ll drink a Red Bull and Nerds gummy clusters to get some energy. Jaelyn’s inspiration is her mom and dad, who always push her to her full potential. She balances sports and school by going to class and keeping up on homework.
Sports have taught her self-discipline, timeliness, and to work hard even when no one is watching. Jaelyn shows leadership by always being positive and encouraging. She always wants to help build her teammates’ confidence to reach their full potential. Her advice to new, upcoming athletes is to put in work outside of practice, put in effort all the time, even if it’s conditioning, and don’t be shy.
Her go-to hype song is anything by Drake when she needs to be chill, and Ken Carson when she needs some energy. If she had a superpower, she would want to be super tall during a game but return to her normal height afterwards.
Coach Moran says, “Jaelyn is a well-rounded player; she is really difficult to guard because she can score inside and outside.” During practice, Jaelyn is hardworking. She continues to grow in ball handling, shooting, and defense throughout her high school career. Coach Brenna Anderson says, “Jaelyn is a good leader; she’s always composed and keeps everyone grounded during the game.” Jaelyn is an essential part of our DHS girls’ basketball team. Congratulations Jaelyn! Keep it up!
