The girls’ Basketball team started their season this week with great energy and high hopes. They are focusing on the basics, building team chemistry, and setting clear goals for the upcoming months. Players and coaches believe the team is already gaining momentum as returning athletes and new teammates collaborate to improve communication and confidence on and off the court. The season is bringing lots of excitement to the players. “This season I’m excited to preach the gospel and be a light on the court,”-Aysia Mathews(12). As practice gets more intense, the team is adopting a disciplined attitude and getting ready to have one of the best seasons yet. There are lots of inspirations on this team, Aysia Mathews(12) says her biggest inspiration on the team is” Claire Goodwin (12), she’s a hard worker and wants the best for everyone. She’s always helping her teammates get better.” With their first official games approaching, the athletes stay motivated and determined to complete a high level and represent DHS proudly.”I’m excited to get out there and contribute to the team as much as I can!”-Ari Stevens(9). Being a student athlete means balancing long practices with school work and still finding the energy to show up every day. The players juggle early mornings, late nights, and the pressure to perform in both the classroom and on the court. “The most important part about being a student athlete to me is creating bonds with teammates and using every opportunity to glorify God.”Aysia Mathews(12).” One of the most challenging things about being a student-athlete is motivating myself to keep my attendance good and have good grades so I can be successful in life past high school.”Ari(9).
