On the Polar Express, it isn’t powered by the stories told and then songs sung but thrives on the steady hands and restless energy of the teens who keep the famous train running. The teenagers behind the scenes are the reason this event is able to happen.
The teenagers who put the effort into making this exciting occurrence happen doesn’t just happen. The polar express runs 7 days a week and the teen actors are expected to show up and practice every day leading up to opening night. Once opening night commences, the teens are given a schedule on when the teens are expected to work. “I enjoy doing this because I really enjoy acting and doing a job where I can act is really enjoyable for me. I also get to hang out with so many of my friends and make new friends, it’s a really great environment to be in.” Said Sydney Rakaskas, a freshman Polar Express employee. Not only are these teens having fun, while getting paid, they also adopt some skills that can be used past this fun working experience. “I think I could use my skills in the future, we do a lot of acting and I’m learning how to interact with people better,” said Rakaskas.

The Polar express brings so much joy and happiness to children all around Durango. This magical train ride allows holiday spirit to be spread throughout this small town to kids, and adults. Thanks to the community of people who work with the Polar Express, the holidays can be a time where everyone is involved.
