El Diablo Media Network nominated Mia Carozza as the athlete of the week. Mia is a Senior and a defensive specialist for the Durango High School varsity volleyball team. She is grateful to be nominated. Volleyball is a big part of her life and she’s sad to see the season ending. Mia’s favorite moment has been their away game against Montrose, even though they lost. The whole team was having fun and laughing in the locker room and played a great first set.
Mia doesn’t have any special rituals before each game; she just keeps the same routine. Sports have taught her to hold herself accountable and to a higher standard. While playing, she tries to stay calm but brings energy to the team. She makes sure to celebrate each point. At practice, Mia stays focused and sets a good example, but still wants it to be fun.
Mia’s biggest inspiration as an athlete is Elena Scott, an American Volleyball Player. Her advice to a younger athlete is not to compare yourself and just focus on improving yourself.
Mia balances sports, school, and her personal life by not letting them become one. She makes sure to make time for herself, as well as time with friends. She will also dedicate time to watch films and make herself a better player. Her favorite hype song is BOOGIE by Brockhampton.
