This is a picture of a list of things that a DHS student has to do over the weekend, and was taken on Friday, October 20th. It shows a method that students can use to keep track of the work they have to do.

Time management is an important skill to have for everyone, this is especially true for high school students. Managing your time effectively is important because it allows you to make time for studying and homework and helps when you want to hang out with friends.

Joann Smotherman, a math teacher at DHS, talks about how she keeps track of time, “Some of the things I do is keep track of what I need to do [is] in [the] form… of lists and post-it notes.”

Keeping track of the things you have to do during the day can help guide you through the day. Some people have a hard time keeping track of what they have to do during the day because everybody is different, for some people, a planner works for them but for others, they have other techniques that help them more than a planner.

Ty Flom, 11th grade counselor, talks about the ways he likes to keep track of his daily tasks “I’m a big fan of using your phones or using your calendar feature or text messaging yourself, I also encourage students to set a reminder.“

When students feel like they are falling behind in class because they forget the things that they need to do they should explore different ways of tracking their progress throughout the day. With people needing different ways of keeping track of things, people have come up with various ways to do so.

Trey Goupil, A freshman, talks about how he keeps track of his work when he misses school “I talk to my teacher if I miss a day.”

The 1st quarter of the school year has ended meaning students should be planning on how they can improve their time management, assessing yourself can help you improve in the areas that need improving. Students should have good time management skills to help in their classes, if they don’t, then they should start trying to improve because it is a skill that is important throughout their entire life.
