Every year Durango holds an annual winter celebration called Snowdown. The theme changes each year, and this year from January 23rd to February 1st is “Uniquely Colorado-Then and Wow.” On the poster made especially for the occasion, we are able to present something uniquely Durango. In the middle of the handmade poster is our Board of Directors, the artist challenges us to pick out Dawn, Chip, Tim Z, Dave, Janalee, Lainey, Danny, Jane, Tim W, and Shaheen. To the left is our Colorado state flag, and to the right, we have a hand holding a diploma with traditional beaded bracelets. This is our way of acknowledging the Indigenous people of the Four Corners region. Plus, if you have an idea for the 2028 Snowdown go to snowdown.org and vote, remember that they never use the same theme multiple times! The 2027 Snowdown theme will be announced during the 2026 Snowdown. This Friday, January 30th at 6PM is Downtown Durango’s biggest annual event: The Annual Snowdown Light Parade, hosted by Purgatory. It’s the only light parade hated by Durango, and it will have many floats of different local businesses and establishments going through the street. If you are unable to attend, there is a live stream hosted through the snowdown.org website for all to enjoy! Sadly, registration is closed for more floats, but it’s fun to be in the audience too. Many floats will give out candy, have animated and exciting costumes, and the floats are all unique and special. Snowdown is a vibrant and largely attended event, and it is highly recommended by most Durango citizens that you enjoy not only the light show but also the other events hosted during Snowdown.
