Students took the SAT and PSAT at Durango High School on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. All juniors took the SAT, and 9th & 10th graders took the PSAT.
Our students and teachers worked hard to prepare for them. SAT tests are standardized tests that colleges look at to see students’ readiness for college and therefore feel high stakes
The SAT season is a stressful time for all students. Studying and taking practice tests can be hard to manage with students’ busy schedules, but Durango High School found a way to make it easy for students to prepare for them.
Math, biology, and ELA teachers gave students class time to take practice tests and were open to answering any questions students have about the SAT material. Ms. Woods set up a SAT study time during lunch to help students study for their SAT prep. DHS teachers also gave kids extra help on class material if needed for the SAT.
“The study groups are really helping out students with things they have trouble with,” Ms. Woods said. “Students are really helping each other out”.
PSAT students, 9th and 10th graders, were given time in class to work on practice PSATs to help prepare them for the tools and materials they would encounter on the test.
This time of year can be extremely stressful for students, so it’s good to make sure you are studying and taking sure you take care of yourself. That means trying to get in at least one hour of study time and 8-10 hours of sleep in order to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for testing.
“I didn’t have enough time on some of the sections,”one 9th grader shared after they finished their first PSAT. They claimed that on the second sections for both ELA and math they ran out of time.
A good solution to that would be to maybe add a feature where students can add 5 minutes on their test if they need more time to finish off their questions as most students said that they ran out of time when they only had a couple questions left.
Students loved having a half day. Most tests ended around 11:30 to 12:00, taking almost 4 hours off of a normal school day.
