Yes, you read that title right. To the knowledge of a lot of people actually, there IS a cafe in the Durango Public Library. Ran by Cassandra Segura, on the north side of the library right when you enter it, you’ll find a small little cafe!
It first opened up in 2014 of April, who had original founder Robin Halloran, and co-founder Adrea Bogle running it up until COVID-19 hit, in which it was closed until 2021, where Corrie McCarthy reopened it with a small ceremony! Now, Corrie has retired and we reach today where Cassandra currently has it going strong! The Common Grounds has a big history, and the legacy is continuously held up by such amazing people!

In this student-ran, nonprofit organization, you can find coffee cheaper than large corporation coffee shops, with beans straight from the Desert Sun coffee company! You can also find Chai and Italian Sodas there with all kinds of different types for customization. Though, there is no matcha.
If you aren’t particularly thirsty for a drink, there are also plenty of bakery items that come straight from Bread Bakery, and decently cheaper! From macarons to 100% locally sourced sandwiches, there are so many options to choose from! Items are also decently cheaper than what you would normally get from Bread, however you’ll have to be quick if you want to get the good stuff first! Supplies are limited daily.
Durango High School directly supports Common Grounds Cafe, and it’s all non profit! If you’re looking for reasonable prices and top notch quality coffee, or maybe even want to try to intern there for your work-ethic credits, your support means a lot to the cafe and even the library itself! The Common Grounds has it’s doors open from 10AM to 2PM every weekday, closed on weekends. Come stop by during lunch period! Just don’t overflow too much…
