At DHS, students are actively voicing their perspectives on the role of social media in the lives of today’s teenagers. Their voices reflect a real understanding of the digital world, acknowledging both its benefits and potential setbacks for our society as a whole.
Bianka Reichle, a student at DHS, shared her view saying, “I think social media has both good sides and bad sides.” Additionally she explained, “Personally, I think social media is a great way to make friends and stay connected with people you don’t talk to a lot.” Reichle also noted the educational value to social media stating, “Now that we have started using social media more, we learn more about the world and about others’ opinions.”
However, not all students view social media through a purely positive perspective. Shreya Vaidya, another student at DHS, expressed her concern about its influence on our behavior in our youth saying, “Social media has a lot of influence on the young people of our generation, and it influences people to be a certain way that could harm real relationships.” She further highlighted, “Especially when they aren’t aware of the harms regarding using social media and the effect it has on people.”
Again, however, In contrast, Emory McLaughlin sees social media as an important part of our modern culture. “I think that it is a huge part of our culture and is important to connect people.”
