The Spring sports season at DHS is coming to an end! The baseball, girls tennis, girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, and girls soccer teams have all had exciting seasons in 2025, each with a winning record, and soccer and lacrosse with first place endings in league.
To start off, Baseball is 5-3 in league games with a game against Palisade coming up. After talking with sophomore Jayden Vagnuer about his favorite part of the season, Vagnuer shared, “Teeter and I threw a combined no hit against Cortez, which was pretty cool.” Overall baseball had a lot of growth from last year, and had an overall winning season.”
Next, girls tennis has 88 wins and 51 losses, again another winning record! I asked freshman Piper Reese to share her favorite part about the tennis season, and she shared, “The coolest thing was being able to travel and get to play in many different tournaments.” She also added, “my favorite memory is playing at regionals unexpectedly, and getting 3rd.”
Staying on the trend of girls spring sports, the girls lacrosse season is now coming to a close, they ended 6-2 and first in league. I talked with freshman Lucy Wilson who when asked about her favorite memory shared, “We went down by a lot in a Telluride game, and we came back and beat them in double overtime.” Girls lacrosse had a tough season, but fought through to get the first place spot in the league, and a spot in the playoffs.
Also, boys lacrosse is also having a decent season this year with new coach, Val Skarbek, they are 4-6 in league. Grady Hootin shared that his favorite part of the season was to see all the guys come together, and figure out all their individual and team issues.
Lastly, girls soccer had a great season, they ended up 10-0 in league and also got the first place spot going into playoffs. Junior Ryne Neiman shared that she had saved a PK against Fruita. Ending the season with no losses puts the team in great standing for the playoffs.
To conclude each of the spring sports at DHS went well this season, and teams are now moving into the playoffs in the coming weeks.
