Have you ever dreamed of becoming a pilot? Starting next year, seniors at Durango High School will have a chance to enroll in a brand new aviation class that helps guide students into earning their ground pilot license.
Dr. Jon Hoerl, who is also helping launch this course, explained what students can expect, saying “It’s a class that we’re gonna be putting together for kids to be able to learn about aviation and the different aspects to go with it, from not just being a pilot, but also a mechanic and other aspects.”
Hoerl also talks about how students will be able to get their pilot license, stating “They should be able to expect to get their ground pilot license and be prepared to take that assessment at the end of the year.”
In addition, Hoerl stated that, “We were very fortunate a gentleman donated a flight simulator that he uses in his own instruction outside of school.” Hoerl expressed his gratitude for the donation and how it could help move forward the process of creating the class. He also stated, “We’re probably gonna offer it just to seniors because we only have one class of it…also because of the age requirements to take the test.”
Whether you’re interested in becoming a pilot, a mechanic, or just exploring a new career path, this course offers a rare opportunity to get started in the world of aviation.
