Sports is a big part of American culture and it takes a lot of effort and passion to pursue sports. Seniors at DHS have shown that they have these qualities and are being signed to continue playing sports.
DHS senior Sofia Voss has always been a runner from a very young age, which started because her family enjoyed running. Entering high school, Voss joined cross country and found she loved pushing her limits. Voss has been signed by Colorado Mesa for Cross Country and Track
Voss ultimately has no plans of pursuing sports professionally because she wants to go into law school, but even though she is not going into sports after college she has found a passion in running and plans to keep running as a hobby. Even though she will not be pursuing after college, being able to get signed shows her dedication and all the hard work she has put into sports for her to reach the level of being able get signed for sports in college
Voss talks about how people looking at sports should “Have fun with it, it’s just high school” and that you are doing the sport because you love it and want to enjoy playing the sport. Voss also talks about her mindset “Typically, I do best when I’m having fun and not worrying about what’s going to come next.”

Senior Amelia Scott plans to play soccer for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Scott began playing soccer early on and has been playing soccer at a high level since middle school.
Like Voss, Scott will not be pursuing soccer after college, but soccer has “improved my confidence in speaking up and getting out of my comfort zone.”
Scott has also given advice for those looking to be successful playing sports“You need a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, as well as being coachable and open to feedback, to play your best.”
These two athletes will not be pursuing sports after college, but they have learned so much from playing sports that will help them in the future. Being able to get into a college sports is a huge deal and according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) only 6% of people will compete in NCAA schools.
Anyone that has an interest in sports should just try and have fun and learn something new because life is all about learning.
These are not the only two DHS seniors that have been signed to play college sports, there are many more. In fact this year DHS has seen many more seniors being signed by colleges for sports compared to recent years. Here is a list of all the amazing seniors that have been signed on April 16th.
