The new rule implemented into the school system this year is when the class begins you have to put your phone into the pocket that is available in every classroom. Last year the rule was not used as much and students were allowed to have their phones with them and not in the phone pockets.
How would you feel if during every class period you had to leave your phone in a pocket until the end of the class? Would you agree or disagree with the rule?
Sophomore River Garlington shared his opinion of the new school rule by saying, “I think it’s real stupid just let me keep my phone bruh.”
In addition, sophomore Kamron Rodriguez said, “It’s terrible. Why is it terrible? I don’t like the school taking stuff away from me.”Students like Rodriguez also like the security of having their phone in their pocket and not having to worry about how they lost their phone when it is just in the phone pockets.
While students don’t seem to support the new rule, teachers expressed support.
Ms. Coronado expressed support for the new rule saying that her students are paying more attention in her class. When asked how she enforces the new phone policy, Coronado said, “I need to make sure that kids know that when they come in they need to put their phones away and I try to remind them as many times as possible.”
After interviewing multiple people, it seems most students were against the idea of the new phone policy because they feel like their property is being taken away from them, but the teachers are supporting the new rule because it is making the students pay more attention to the teacher.
