“Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn has come under fire after the discovery of pedophilia and rape jokes posted on his Twitter page.

James Gunn, a recently respected and loved creator of the “marvel GOTG” movies, has been disowned by Hollywood this summer after 10-year-old tweets involving pedophilia resurfaced causing him to lose his job in order for Disney to maintain it’s “family friendly” reputation.

As someone who likes most of James Gunn’s work, this student felt that his jokes were in really poor taste and he should pay the price,

“He’s a good director but I don’t care about him enough to say what he did was really acceptable.”, said Valguder Hanson, a freshman at DHS.

The tweets on their own have caused a lot of controversies but weeks later, photos were discovered of a “to catch a predator” themed party hosted by James Gunn which had Gunn and others dressed up like children and creepy looking pedophile type men Disney themselves released a statement describing James Gunn’s tweets as,

“indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values.”, said Disney company.

It does raise the question as to why Gunn deleted over 10,000 tweets in one night when news first broke, making it seem suspicious as to why he couldn’t keep them up if they didn’t reflect him as a person today. Yet it could also mean he’s really a better person and just didn’t want children to have to read them and imagine him as just a monster.

When talking to Miranda Franklin, a marvel fanatic and big “GOTG” fan, she is on the defense of Gunn.

“I think we all have said something we wish we could take back, and even though they were horrible jokes they were also just jokes and he shouldn’t lose his job for that.”, said Franklin an AHS freshman.

Of course, it is expected for most of the long-term fans of Marvel and Gunn’s work to be a supporting benefactor towards him because they are so fond of him as a person, that Hollywood immediately disowning him for jokes is not totally fair. The main cast of the “guardians” films have made their side clear with a signed letter on each of their Instagrams stating their support behind Gunn making it clear they don’t want him to be fired.

WWE wrestler Dave Bautista who plays the character ‘Drax” in the films has threatened to even quit the franchise if at least Gunns finished script isn’t used in the third film because he is already so upset about him being fired. This could be a sign that James Gunn really has changed into a better person over the years if the cast has such a strong stance on making sure he keeps his job.

“They are putting the movie off, it’s on hold indefinitely… I have an issue, I have a moral and a political issue with what they’ve done.” said Dave Bautista/”Drax”.

When the headlines ran of everyone’s opinion, Gunn finally responded with his view on the news and himself as an individual, he believes people should give him a second chance.

“I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger. My days saying something just because it’s shocking and trying to get a reaction is over.”, said Gunn.
